So, what is the matrix? And, is the matrix real?
The Illusion of Utopia: Control and Sacrifice within The Matrix
In the Matrix films, the matrix definition is: a system designed by intelligent machines to pacify, control and harvest humanity.
The only way machines can harvest energy from humans is through controlled distraction. The ‘comfortable life’ within the Matrix structure is an illusion of utopia or at least solace, used as a bribe or deflection away from asking questions, resistance or rebellion.
Freedom vs. Control: The Ultimate Sacrifice in The Matrix System
The sacrifice for the comfortable life within the Matrix is freedom, individual sovereignty; even humanity. The penalty for resisting the Matrix, or recruiting others out of it is death.
The Matrix represents a system of control that operates completely in the mind. An illusion construct, created by a complex, machine-driven program, which appropriates any personal, political, or ideological leanings and renders them false or delusional. It allows and indeed relies on illusions to exist, but no actual action, choice, or liberty.
Mind Over Matter: The Psychological Control of The Matrix
It can only exist as a system when humans consider it to be real, but are unaware of its existence. The world we consider 'real' is actually a projection of our own desires. From Morpheus, Matrix character Neo learns that how he'd perceived himself in the Matrix was simply ‘the mental projection of your digital self.’
Reality or Illusion: The Matrix in Modern Society
And, what is the matrix in real life?
The Matrix meaning in real life (paradox) can be a system of control, created by intelligent or self-appointed authorities or power seekers, designed to create an illusion of comfort and security, to distract humanity away from the motives of the authorities and the real function of those within it.
The Matrix and the Power of Perception: Belief as a Tool for Control
Another way that the Matrix is like real life is in its portrayal of the power of the mind and the human capacity for belief. In the Matrix movie is able to control the minds of humanity because they believe that the virtual reality it creates is real.
Reality vs. Perception: Unravelling the Truth Beyond the Illusion
This idea mirrors the way that people in the real world can be influenced by their own beliefs and the information they are presented with; believing what they perceive to be real rather than what really ‘is’. This can be both good and bad, personally pacifying but also delusional.
Agents of Control: From Fictional Programs to Real-World Authorities
Furthermore, the Matrix is like real life in its exploration of the nature of reality and the idea that our understanding of the world is shaped by our experiences and perspective. What is perceived, is real, and what is real, is perceived.
The Parallels Between The Matrix and Real-World Control Systems
In the Matrix films, the characters must come to terms with the fact that their perceived reality is not what it seems and must confront the truth about their own identities and the nature of the world they live in.
Media, Money, and Manipulation: The Real-World Matrix
This idea can be related to the way that people in the real world may question their assumptions and beliefs about the world and seek to understand things from new perspectives. Who controls the world? Do we have freedom of speech and action or non action? Is the media controlling our minds?
The Matrix is able to control the minds of humanity because they believe that the virtual reality it creates is real. It does this by manipulating their perceptions and experiences within the Matrix, presenting them with a simulated version of the world and hiding the truth from them. This is a paradox, because the Matrix is seen as dystopian control of a resistant humanity, yet humanity chooses to believe the very thing that imprisons them.
The Matrix has agents who are powerful computer programs that can manipulate the Matrix and defend it from those who seek to challenge its control. There are agents in real life who have authority and power, able to rise above the very laws it creates and exert control over the populus. Like agents in the Matrix, they exert a strong influence over the people, shaping their understanding of the world and their place in it, and making it difficult for them to challenge its control.
Propaganda and Perception: How Media Shapes Reality
Mass hypnosis. Propaganda. Spin. Manipulation of perception. Vehicles/conduits are required to hypnotise and manipulate. Media is the vessel. Money is the lever. Keep you poor. Keep you reliant. Take away your ability to say no. Illusion of need and comfort, the fear of indoctrinated traps of risk and debt. Keep you in debt. Feed off you in the form of debt and interest and tax. Hypnotise you to save, in order to finance the very system that’s controlling you.
Distract you like in the Matrix film. Fill you with fantasy, entertainment, fiction, ‘reality TV’, news of no relevance or consequence. Get you addicted to (social) media. Scroll. Swipe. Scroll. Swipe. Instant fix dopamine. If you’re not monetising social media, then you are being monetised.
The Algorithm of Control: Lessons from 'Rabbit Hole
The Netflix series ‘Rabbit Hole’, lays out the ‘algorithm of control’ in five simple steps, or chapters. How to manipulate the population. How to undermine elections and sway public support:
Step 1. Undermine people’s faith in the media, so they begin to doubt the nature of the truth.
Step 2. Polarise factions in society and stop seeing the other side as human; then human rights cease to be an obstacle.
Step 3. Marginalise the intelligentsia: when people stop listening to experts, they become malleable.
Step 4. Elect a candidate under the guise of restoring order. Someone smart and charismatic, but who can be controlled.
And when asked about step 5, or chapter 5, the answer is:
‘Well, there is no chapter 5. Because then the country is yours.’
Of course, all of this above is fiction, isn’t it? You have not seen this happen in reality at all, have you?
