Coping With Low Self-Esteem

If you’re reading this and you’re struggling, I think some of the content will help you. But if you’re reading, and you’re not yet struggling, as things get harder in business as there’s a recession, as maybe you’re struggling with the work-life balance as you’re working hard, and maybe, your energy, and passion, and enthusiasm start to wane, as you have disruptions, legal cases, reputational, and other issues, this stuff can really come at you as a surprise. It can blindside you. I probably was too proud a few years ago, to talk about some of the feelings that I had, which were, quite dark or empty. Sometimes, emptiness is worse than darkness.

You have to take good care of yourself. I’m definitely not the best at this. I’m a working progress. But some of these I do quite well. And many of these I’m figuring out just like you.

But entrepreneurs tend to go from goal to goal. We tend not to really take good care of our health, our well-being, our happiness. We tend not to take too much rest, recuperation. We tend not to reward ourselves. We tend not to spoil ourselves rotten. I think that, that’s really important that we do that. Have fun. Laugh a lot. Take some time out. Do the things that make you feel good. Caring about yourself.

More money is not a clear enough vision. Not having a boss isn’t either. What role could you see yourself doing for a long, long time? What career could you see yourself growing through the hard challenges, or even slightly sadistically enjoying them, like a coder loves to hack through hard algorithms? I know it sounds really stupid. But just shaving my beard, and having a good shave, and having it moisturised, that makes me feel really good. I don’t do it enough. Definitely going to the gym makes me feel really good. It’s like a reward. Doing the things that you love. I love when I go on holiday, I just love dreaming about , where my life will be and the amazing things I can do, and the amazing people I might get to meet. I love to go to London. For me, London is the place. I’ve been to a lot of big cities around the world, some inspiring places. But London, for me, is like, the dream city in a way that it’s just oh, wow, this is… Life can be anything that I want it to be.

Often, I just sort of, breathe that in myself. I just think that and feel that. I supposed I used to always sort of feel a bit guilty about doing that, or unrealistic about doing that. But I try not to judge myself now. I just breathe it in and enjoy it. Dare to dream.

A business that doesn’t make money is called a hobby. It is OK to look at careers that make great money. Don’t be all hippy and do it for the love, because someone else with money will end up having to fund it for you, and you’ll get into debt, or you won’t sustain and grow your career. Understand the value and function on Money (Read “Money – Know More, Make More, Give More” on Audible or Amazon) & balance your passion and profession, vocation and vacation. Sure, you’ve gotta love what you do, but everyone tells you that. It’s gotta make you great money with no ceiling too, to keep you interested, and feeding that every increasing debt, spending, kids, schools and inflation!

I have hobbies, but I don’t do enough of them. I love playing pool. I love playing golf. I love listening to my Vinyl, and I should do it more. That you have to actually block that out in the diary. I wrote a book called, “Routine Equals Results”. Because if you don’t compartmentalise in your health, your fitness, your hobbies, your family, all that happen, is, work, business, entrepreneurship, that will just consume everything. Date nights, Netflix nights, these things actually have to be blocked in, otherwise time just gobbles it up like a black hole.

I think it’s good to give yourself feedback. It’s good to be honest and say, you know what, I shouldn’t be doing that. I’d made a mistake, and I’d let myself down. I need to fix that. But that’s feedback. You don’t want to turn it into an inner critic, where you’re beating yourself up all the time, and you’re beating yourself down. You’re harder on yourself. Sometimes, the standards you hold yourself to, are, too high and unrealistic.

If you’re going to be an inner critic, you’ll also need to be an inner carer. And each time you say, “Oh, I failed at this, I’m not very good at this,” you need to immediately with another voice on the other side of your shoulder, go actually, “but I’m really good at this.” And I did this really well. Make that a balance. I know a lot of people they’re more of an inner critic than an inner carer.

Inspiration doesn’t wait. You only get one chance. You get it for a fleeting nano-second while you’re playing with the kids or hitting a set in the gym or running or stuck in traffic or when you stir in bed at 3AM You have to be ready all the time. You have to be on call for inspiration, ready to drop absolutely everything for that short micro window where you can write it down and bottle it. 

So, by the time, you get to where you want to go, and maybe, you’re not comparing yourself to others, and putting them up there, you’re going to be comparing yourself to others in terms of their youth, or their energy, or their enthusiasm, or passion. I know this is not that easy, because humans, we have to compare ourselves to others for value attribution and for survival. You value everything by comparing it to something. But you should be comparing positively, and negatively equally, and not just holistically negatively.

I’m not saying going around pissing people off with no reason. Don’t take me out of context. But you need to make yourself happy first. It’s okay. They say charity starts at home. They say put your own gas mask on first. This is vital. If you’re not happy, you can’t make your kids happy, your husband or wife happy, your clients happy, your colleagues happy. 

It’s okay to be selfish to care for yourself, to make yourself feel good about yourself, and that will transmute out to other people. 

Two or three years ago I set up my Foundation ‘The Rob Moore Foundation’ now my personal vision started as getting out of debt and making money and being a successful entrepreneur but I found that my clients weren’t interested in them as people don’t care what you know until they know that you care.

So I turned what I wanted to achieve into also and mutually serving vision and then my world changed, my connections changed and my impact and scale changed. So now my personal vision is to help as many people on this planet start and scale their business and get a better financial education. And people can relate to that and all of a sudden they’re involved in my vision now.

Of course, I’m never going to help everyone on the planet no matter how hard I try but if I have a goal to help as many people on the planet, I’m going to help more people. So remember if it serves and it solves problems for humanity, people buy into it. My online courses for example are a great way in which I have helped 1000s of people across the world.

I am passionate about helping as many young & underprivileged start & scale meaningful businesses that change the world and I want to help as many entrepreneurs start & scale their business & get a better financial education. 

I have been lucky enough to work with and help some AMAZING people recently. Here’s just some of the many people I have helped achieve real world RESULTS.

I think the more kind you are to people you will make a big difference in their world. I think that there is a virtuous butterfly effect.

So, when you’re starting off scaling as an entrepreneur you want to make a bit more money or you’re not quite sure where you want to be, you can often become too focused or obsessed on the commercial but don’t forget to do kind things every day.
